I enjoyed several Freida McFadden’s books before, so I was really excited to read this one.

The main character Blake was kind of annoying at first. He’s self-absorbed, constantly chasing validation, and seems to think very highly of himself. At first, his character felt overly stereotypical, but then Blake lost his job. Even with his fiancé Krista helping to cover bills, Blake had no choice but to take whatever work he could find just to cover his mortgage. Things got so rough that he even had to rent out part of his house to a tenant. The moment the new tenant Whitney moves in, Blake starts spiralling, convinced she’s out to deliberately torment him. He becomes completely obsessed with her, trying to figure out if she has some secret vendetta against him and if he somehow deserves it. Blake sets out to dig into her past and figure out what he could’ve possibly done to make her so vengeful.

Overall, it was a quick, easy read with some decent twists. While it wasn’t overly complex or shocking, it kept my attention, and I enjoyed how much Blake’s character evolved by the end. He became more self-aware, which was a nice shift from the overconfident persona he started with. If you’re looking for something fast-paced and entertaining, this one is worth checking out!

Thank you to NetGalley and Poison Pen Press for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
